The other day, I spent my morning researching about the HPV vaccine that also prevents cervical cancer. The previous evening, my sister said she was getting it and told my mum that maybe Lala and I should get it too. After reading about it, I learned that it was uber expensive (more so than Kiara claimed), that it was administered in three doses, not one, and that it was effective for 5 years, not forever. Basically, that it's not as worthwhile as my sister thinks.
I went home to tell my parents about these findings. My dad said that he read those same things too which is why he didn't suggest it even if he knew the vaccine existed. "Kasi hindi naman kayo, kumbaga, hindi masyadong sexually active." He was almost stuttering as he said this, going back and forth at the word choice and sentence construction, before he decided that was the best way he could say it. At this point, I didn't know whether I should laugh, keep quiet, deny any implications... I eventually just said "yeah, I mean, I guess we're really not [that] exposed to HPV. "
It was so funny the way it was awkward! It's funny that my dad can't figure out whether he can come to terms with the obvious or continue to pretend that he doesn't know! I do wonder what he meant though, because the way he said it could mean several things:
a) hindi masyado = not all aspects of the act
b) hindi masyado = not often
c) hindi masyado = not with many different people
Anyhoo, it's his problem! hehehehe
