pleasant surprise

Carrot cakes are not usually blogged about, but today I have found a reason to do so. Because yesterday I had a hankering for God-knows-what, even after I had eaten treats like spicy sampaloc and cold sweet oranges. I couldn't, for the life of me, think of what I wanted (no, it was not chocolate).

I had given up on this and thought, "Good, I don't have to snack in the middle of the night, better for my figure," brushed my teeth and moved on. Just as I was cozying up in my parents' air-conditioned room to watch Search for the Next Doll, my mum pulled out an individually-wrapped slice of melted and slightly mangled carrot cake. Not just any carrot cake! It was, um, Carrot-brand carrot cake. Or should I say Cake-brand carrot cake? -- The one that started out in New Manila and whose logo is a drawing of a carrot with the word "cake" inside of the vegetable, which somehow, everyone reads as "carrot cake" even if only "cake" is actually printed. (Note: To me, this makes up a huge part of the charm of the product.)

They have the best cream cheese frosting I've tasted, and it's even better when it's room temperature and liberally smothered on the slice. And really, who wuddathunk that when it's not chocolate or fruit that I want, it'd actually be carrot cake?!?!
