likha-diwa, i missed you!

karl and i had dinner there last night. wanted the pesto aliguetti but i just had pasta for my past two meals, so i just got the pusitsig. mm-mm, squid goodness. and a nice frothy glass of banana soymilkshake. and bell pepper/cheesesticks with a really good salsa. mm-mm.

survey: who is the baby in the immaculate conception? mary (inside st. ann's womb)? or jesus (inside mary's womb)?

i say it's mary. catechism is confusing when you read it. karl was reading it to me last night from an official book. but i remember my catechism in shs pretty well. i say it's mary =)

i'm bubbling up!! this will be, like, the longest two weeks of my life... ssshhh... don't ask, please.

oh, i miss sir reev too. we keep on catching each other at the wrong time to catch up. so we haven't caught up yet. damn.

my mum told me today i seem to be getting taller. I WANT!!! yay... i hope it's true.

so. back to "work".

enterprise is not one of my virtues

it is no doubt that i have too much time on my hands sometimes. most of the time actually, it seems. otherwise, how else would this blog be expertly kept? it has often crossed my mind that i should try to make money on the side with this time instead of, um, blogging, um, reading, and uh, maybe drawing a bit. but i do have reservations about it.

first of all, what else can i do? help make events. not my cup of tea. too much of a pull-my-hair-out kind of challenging. write. about what? certainly not about music. very unethical. tsk, tsk. food? i'm not a picky eater. don't know much about evaluating the quality of ingredients and the finer points of preparation. fashion? there are too many fashion writers. art? have too little history in me. travel? i'm a prisoner of this office! actually, that's probably the bulk of it. i'm trapped here. to go out would betray my two-timing, to stay in would limit what i can actually do with idle time. there's not much else i can do on a desk aside from research, write, talk on the phone. and having to be on that desk at 8am everyday limits field research (in favor of personal health, of course).

i've been offered to write though, of course, but not for media. concept papers for businesses, events and other projects find me, but nothing materializes because the initiators are all high on ganja too often to think straight, communicate clearly to me, and follow through on their plans.

i'm quite uneasy to be an artist middleman, though it seems to be stress-free venture. so far the best idea i've heard is to take photos and sell them. i'll have a test run and hope that it'll be the start of dragging my slr around once again.

to tell you the truth, aside from all these practical hindrances, i am a bit lazy. i'm attached to the lack of pressure, to the relaxed pace of my day. i'm concerned that if i accept another task, i might compromise my work for one reason or another. and i can't because i'm being paid for it.

am i not ambitious enough? it'd be nice to have bragging rights and credentials. i do want to do many things, but i have this linear mind that says, "one at a time, one at a time."

ah, to be bored.

one thought.

ABSOLUTELY the BEST THING about being a GOOD, SINGLE GIRL is PEACE OF MIND.

that's all i can say.

poocher night revival!

here's to the first two all-commuter poocher nights!

isboy treated us to a movie last friday. i caught up with the gang at timezone gb3 after dinner with karl at mister kabab, where ais, mark, jun and leo decided to rock out on the percussions freak game. let's go steppenwolf! born to be wild!! *timmy! livin' a lie!* we watched blade trinity (supposedly my date movie, but oh well.) and then rocked out some more at the arcade afterwards. i saw my grade school friend diana nuesa, who turns out to be isboy's catholic fellowship friend as well. anyway, she's back to living here after staying in canada for quite a while. when aissa joined her high school friends for coffee, we all WALKED to edsa. take note. WALKED TO EDSA. such. we found a petron with treats and starbucks. so we bought food from treats and sat at starbucks. hehehehe. and packed ourselves into a cab (instead of an ordinary bus... why not...) and dropped off everyone as near to their homes as can be. (thanks to isbel for a whopping contribution to the cab fare). edsa-ayala to 14 moldero st - 200 bucks exactly.

i took karl to aissa's birthday party on saturday after we had dinner and hung out at UP. i was tipsy after 3 or 4 glasses of wine. hehehehe... it was so cold in their yard. i was in a long sleeved turtleneck and yet i had to hang out inside their kitchen for quite a time just to warm up. the narcoleptic in me forced us to go home at half past midnight. wasn't able to sleep in yesterday, but at least i was able to claim my stuff from leo after walking around east fairview for 20 minutes. crap-o. that place is a labyrinth.

femme fatale/damaged females

i'm reading karl's short stories and novellas and he said that often when they workshop his stuff, they tell him that he treats his female characters with so much machismo.

between beautiful werebitches that attract too many rapists, beautiful faeries who seduce fiesta revelers for prey, kind aswangs who free photographers after drinking half his blood, digital-biotechnically enhanced models who sleep too much after sex, dildo-fucking lesbians who bring their lovers back from the dead, beautiful broadcast journalists who seduce sources for info, sexy drug dealers who cut customers' stash too pure, catholic schoolgirls who choke to death on semen in a six-way, and lots of incest and abuse for damage, i like his female characters.

in a household of 4 (formerly 5) girls and one man, an exlusive girl's school and a college dominated by women, i seem to lack some feminism in me (the rah-rah-radical kind i don't like, i mean). precisely because of this environment, i never felt deprived of power. i mean, men, how can you NOT listen to a woman and take her seriously if they outnumber you, right? should you choose to disregard us, you should fear for your life. really. women abuse men more than we admit. blackmail with tears or sex? easy! girls: don't tell me you never even tried this ONCE on a man. it's only fair they have advantages in SOME aspects.

equal rights, schmequal rights. the truth is, i like being looked at as a sex object. i like surprising them with wit, intellect, and VIRTUE, even. and as far as being a sex kitten, the only thing right they got was that i'm open-minded. and yes, a tad perverse.

whether virgin, vixen or virago, i can have the upper hand if i want to.

wax ecstatic

karl and i had dinner last night at aling nena's bibingka at cubao. we were supposed to watch blade trinity at gateway but the 9:25 PM showing was just too late for me. maybe friday. so we just ate to our heart's content - mechado, adobong kangkong and bibingka. yum.

we hung out at iris and joe's bookstore afterwards. we met joe's book club friends, closed up with them and rode with them to the quezon ave mrt station.

karl lent me his new sponge cd with wax ecstatic on it. i'm surprised he didn't know about the song. i remember that song - like the eraserheads' superproxy in english. and the video. with the ugly girl (angelina?) on roller skates consuming all that vitamin e like cereal. and the stuff oozing out of the soft capsules. it used to play everyday on MTV super rock. that was how i was before, in the sixth grade and freshman and sophomore year in high school. my sister and i, as well as may, would go home after school as early as possible so we could watch super rock. (bad trip kung cleaners kami). ooohh super rock. with danny mcgill. and the stomping-boots-obb. there were so many good videos back then. even danny mcgill's own band had a video. well, good songs actually, not videos. there are a lot of better videos now, but the songs aren't good enough to carry them. super rock used to come on everyday. then they made it something like once a week. then they cut it. they didn't even give alternative nation a better slot. fuck MTV.

i guess that's why i'm not a hermit now.

enero 5 - jenny may licen/julie laconico
enero 11 - anne monzon
enero 12 - isbel wasan/sheila juan
enero 13 - bambie perey/martin nuqui/rae rivera
enero 18 - may corpuz/aissa benitez/shan dala
enero 24 - iris pagsanjan-estrera
mga ambisyoso talaga mga kaibigan ko.

o sya. tatapusin ko nang basahin libro ni karl.

back to normal

another week back at the office, and traffic was horrendous. i am ashamed to say that i am such a baby (or just a brat) as to ask my dad to pick me up from the throng of commuters and bring me to work. hahaha

anyway, friday was tiring. my eldest sister kiara dragged me and ate lala to makati to see bad boy michael (who didn't even join us) and instead ended up people-watching at greenbelt two with good boy gino. with the exception of seeing ysa, gel, april, chinny, urk and marela, greenbelt sucks ass. i swear. for no real reason, we just HAD to stay till around 3AM. I slept at 4. oh, and some tambay sa kanto followed and taunted me while i was walking home from work. uberscary, i swear.

karl took me to his family's cemetery on saturday afternoon. we also went to libreria and the books for less/papemelroti cafe on roces avenue. after melting in the sun, staying in the cafe was very refreshing.

yesterday was spent in greenbelt 3 and dozing off.

i'm starting to read karl's forthcoming book today.

i need to see zarah and the poochers soon.

the perils of eating out

three meals from a restaurant in a week, combined with constant movement, sleep deprivation and stress should just be enough to keep my weight steady, i think. that is, the friday dinner with friends, the lunches on saturday and sunday with family, the commuting and walking around the metro more than once a day, and a shitload of mall shows, launches, bar tours or radio servicing.

probably since late october, those three meals turned into AT LEAST FIVE. the mall shows dwindled. after servicing one sampler and distributing christmas gifts (only two weeks), nothing else happened. oh, and then the catering came with the holidays. and the dressing up in nice shoes (no walking for me). i swear, just make me eat out for 5 days, two meals a day, i'm going to gain weight (happened in 2003). and so...

i am a certified FAT ASS!!!

(Yay!!!! *applause*applause*)

what can i say? life is good.

ok. now back to walking 2 km home and some more exercises around thrice a week.

puzzles!

yesterday was MY date for karl's unusual dates article. after waiting for the horribly delayed train, i bought him a japanese dinner at komoro-soba for his unsettled tummy. after that, we went to hobbes to play with some puzzles over dessert: numbers, bugs, prairie dogs. unfortunately, there was this one puzzle that an executive was hogging all to himself. of course, we looked at the other games (we wanted the dirty minds game). he wanted to buy a cd, and while we were looking around, i saw ate lala's kinakapatid gino and he saw luna's boyfriend aids. no good cd's around. we took a walk at the park between the church and the museum. we sat on the curve at the curb. then we rode home with mum. huh. two adults on a date riding home with mum. i think that's pretty unusual. daldal pa naman ni mum. but it was alright. he's pretty good with my parents, i think =)

ate moppet is taking gino and michael out today at lunchtime. both ate lala and i couldn't leave work for it, and we both decided not to see them even for dinner. it'll be quite packed since ate moppet's driving rein's kylie today. instead, we'll go home, rest and save some money, and for me, maybe get a teeny bit of exercise into this old hag. shite.

quiapo's off on sunday =( the bank across the church insisted that they were closed with NO SECURITY GUARDS to entertain those who want to perch on top of their building. what a stupid bluff. the parish said it was too late to accommodate karl's crew on the balcony, and couldn't even lend a measly ladder for us to climb the pedestrian overpass. anyway, the shoot's postponed to good friday. well, karl and i could actually go and stay on the street, but i'm too scared to do it. i'd tell you that he needs sunday also to rush his article, but that's not even half of it. i'm really just a coward.

i can't wait for the first workweek to end!

the weekend never ends

i haven't been staying in since dec. 29, imagine that.

so far it's been: (29) night out with karl, (30) day out with karl/night out with family, (31) day out with family, (1) night out with karl, (2) day out with family, (3) night out with holy girls, (3) night out with karl.

we went to cubao yesterday and visited three nice shops at the marikina shoe expo.

(1) Vintage Pop, which has kitschy furniture and accessories for the home. very cute. i'd like to buy some stuff there if i had a new home. we met the owner, who also makes the furniture and buys the vintage stuff from other places. i specifically wanted to see his place after reading a feature on the store in real living magazine. so maybe karl can write about it too.

(2) Bellini's, good homemade italian food in the 150-200+ range. italian owner/pinay wife, a plump daughter and a tantrum-throwing son. crude (not exactly rude, just unrefined) waiters and a blaring TV to round up the family-restaurant feel. i liked the pizza. pasta was good, but serving too big.

(3) Dateline, a small book shop owned by karl's friends iris and joe. quite homey with benches and a banig and a very attentive owner. we kind of manned the place with her for the rest of the night, and closed up at 9. there were a couple of girls who entered and kept asking about the stuff around the place, like the furniture and the kris ("huh, what's that" said the fake-boobed girl in pink terrycloth sweats and a itty-bitty bikini underneath). the smarter, taller gal bought two old-school storybooks. iris said they may have been a lesbian couple (ooh!). karl came away with a free book from a journalist who wanted other writers to have his book for free. we rode with iris to quezon ave on the way home.

an art gallery will be opening beside them, so the place might end up as a crowded house kind of place (which, incidentally, karl knows the owner. hardly a surprise anymore, hehe), so iris might try to get help getting more books and other things. so it'll be a strip with the gallery, the bookshop, the furniture and accessories, coffee in one of the three, and bellini's for the extremely hungry. and events like launches and poetry and small performances if they can handle it once a month. quite cool. quite. =)

tonight, we're going to hobbes at gb3 to play boardgames and puzzles. if ayala museum is open till late, maybe we could go there too.

i think, for now, it stops here. ;)

bragging, not blogging

i am not blogging. i am bragging. it's not a journal. it's a log.

this little space i think rarely captures the truth about me because i refuse to put it out there. what comes out is a casual reportage of events combined with highly processed (and somewhat diluted) thoughts and emotions. this space is too conscious of its audience.

i wear my heart on my sleeve but, like anything that's actually part of my outfit, i care what i look like to people. and so quarrels, mishaps, disasters are downplayed to little misunderstandings and disappointments. doubts are shrugged off to mask a fledgling faith. insults (to those i care about, at least) are omitted altogether.

so anyway, what i'm saying is that a semblance of success, happiness, faith, fitness, and maturity is attractive. friendster photos, profiles, testimonials, and blogs put our life on display and i think many of us try to create an image of how we want to be perceived. but i will speak for myself. i DO make myself and my life as attractive as possible. because i DO have a reputation to uphold.

what do you do when you don't have anything good to report? what if you had something bad to say about someone that you're sure reaches the blog? the option i always choose is to keep it to myself. publish some sanitized version drained of the alchemy that makes it shocking, hurtful, real.

so for all the blogstalking we do to our friends, we still might be missing something. especially if you're friends with pretentious people like me. but if we meet, i think i'll be up to give you the real deal. let's talk soon. =)

2004-2005 essentials

the eternal witness: sir reev. chatted up about the past year about two hours before 2004 ended.

the best new person: karl. holed up with him for most of the long weekend. two evenings plus one full day. ah, bliss.

the girls: shopping at mango with my sisters and mum, and finally, dinner with may and jennie jo later.

the routine balikbayan. lala's kinakapatid gino (22) toured at greenbelt 3. have half a mind to give him the ambassadors' cd or onward to galaxy for his "ska-punk" tastes. or maybe island riddims for skabeche and island joe. have till the 14th to think it through. kiara's kinakapatid michael (20) is arriving today. a musician who wants volunteer work. i can hook him up with both interests (music and volunteer work) but between work, the quiapo feast and researching karl's valentine articles, i hope i find the time. i think he'd be more receptive to listening to local music, etc.

the plans: getting settled in the job. i'm looking forward to several projects (putumayo, junior kilat, the late isabel) but i'm really nervous. i don't know why.

the goal: a non-pro driver's license for my birthday. a car to bring around at least by the time ate moppet gets married.
